Glucoguard
As a Type 1 Diabetic frustrated by the lack of features available to me through my therapy apps , I researched and designed an intuitive and data-driven app experience tailored for Type 1 diabetics who rely on insulin pump therapy. The focus was to provide easy access to important glucose data, an emergency SOS feature and third party app integration, addressing common frustrations around limited customization, technical reliability, and quick data accessibility.
Problem Statement
Type 1 diabetics on insulin pump therapy often face frustration with their app’s limited features, technical reliability, and lack of customization. This app aims to provide an efficient, user-centered dashboard for accessing critical health data and enhanced safety features, helping users manage their diabetes more confidently.
Project Objectives
1. Create a dashboard highlighting glucose monitoring, insulin pump data, and personalized health insights.
2. Integrate a ENTS (Emergency Notification Triggers) with an SOS option, helping users notify trusted individuals in case of critical health events.
3. Develop an accessible, visually clean UI that enhances usability and simplifies data tracking for better day-to-day management.
Research & Insights
I conducted a user survey and obtained over 100 responses. I also conducted some user interviews to set tasks for other patients and empathize with their own therapy pain-points. Key insights revealed that users prioritize:
1. Quick access to live data forglucose levels, insulin reservoir status, and sensor states.
2. Emergency contact features would help users feel a sense of security in their daily life.
3. More clarity in dashboards because of the complex data structures that can be shown
In the wireframing phase, I focused on creating a clear, intuitive layout that addressed the primary pain points identified in user research. My early sketches prioritized the glucose monitoring dashboard and emergency contact setup, ensuring key health data was accessible at a glance. I iteratively refined these wireframes, incorporating feedback from early testing to simplify navigation and minimize cognitive load. This foundational stage allowed me to structure the app’s flow thoughtfully, balancing essential features with a clean, user-friendly design that would guide users effortlessly through their health management journey
